theme	This fiesta dates from the 18th century. It is celebrated in Triana district, next to the river on Calle Betis. Triana bridge (Puenete de Isabel II) is decorated with lights as well as the main streets in Triana. On Calle Betis you can try fried fish or almendras verdes (almonds) in many casetas (stalls) or just head on for tapas on Calle Pureza, Castilla or San Jacinto. The most popular attraction of this fiesta is Cucaña where young people have to balance on a greasy wooden pole placed over the river to reach the trophy/ flag. Fishing, painting and ceramics exhibitions, cycling, soccer, basketball, water sports are other attractions of the week, which will end with a firework display. Of course flamenco cannot be forgotten as well as film screenings in Plaza de Santa Ana and theatre in Hotel Triana.

Corpus Christi (7 June at 8.30. Procession starts from Cathedral)

The celebration of Corpus Christi originates from 1264 when Pope Urban IV instituted it in his Bula. Corpus Christi is always celebrated on Thursday, 60 days after the Resurrection. Processions start early in the morning from the Cathedral with the "paso" of Las Santas Trianeras Justa y Rufina and finishing with La Custodia de Plata de la Catedral Hispalense, which is carried on wheels as it weights 300 kg and is silver (this paso was designed by Juan de Arfe in 1580 - 1587). During Corpus Christi, balconies are decorated and altars are put on show in the streets that the processions pass through. The grounds are covered by rosemary branches. On Plaza de San Francisco a large gate and an altar of La Santisima Virgen de la Hiniesta are erected. You can visit other interesting altars in Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Paz in Plaza del Salvador, on Avenida de la Constitucion and on Calle Francos. An important part of the day's celebrations are the 10 children called Seises dressed in red and gold suits, who perform 3 dances in the Cathedral accompanied with castanets.

Wednesday 4 April - La Lanzada (Iglesia de San Martin)	La Lanzada procession is coming out of the church Church San Martin (15th century) is situated on Plaza San Martin, which is just on the corner of Calle Quevedo - couple of steps from the apartment. Its procession - La Lanzada starts at 18.00 on Wednesday. The paso depicts the moment when Longinos the Centurion stabs the body of Christ with a spear. The scene is witnessed by the Virgin Mary, Saint John and the Three Marys. It is carried by 45 costaleros/bearers. The Nazareno´s robes are cream with cream cape, flesh-coloured mask and cording.
Thursday 5 April - Pasion (Iglesia La Misericordia)	Church La Misericordia (mid 17th century) is another church very close to the apartment. Its procession - La Pasion is carried out on Thursday at 19.45. The sculpture: Jesus carrying the cross. 1100 Nazarenos wear black fabric, manila hemp belt and cording.

Feria de Abril 2007 (April Fair): 23-29 April

Feria de Abril starts 2 weeks after Easter (Semana Santa). The celebration begins by the illumination of the portadas (entrance gates) at midnight on the grounds called Real de Feria (1.2 million metres squared) next to the district of Los Remedios and continues for 1 week until 29 April with it's fireworks display finale. This year la portada/ the gate was designed by Ricardo Hernandez who was inspired by La Giralda. The ground consists of 15 streets filled with 1,046 casetas (tents) and lit by more than 370,000 bulbs during nights. Calle Infierno is very popular with its 300,000 meters square fun fair. Most of the casetas at Feria are private. Only about 20 are open to the public (municipal casetas  or casetas of political parties). Afternoons are good for watching the Paseos de Caballos (12.00-20.00) - horse shows, horse carriages, ladies in flamenco dresses and bullfighting. The evenings are for drinking, music and dancing the  Sevillanas.     

Feria started in 1846 as a cattle market and nowadays is one of the most popular events in Seville. This week Tuesday has been made a holiday  to recover from the opening night. Be prepared to be jostled a bit in the crowds on the first night when the gate is lit. This weekend one million fair-goers are expected including many famous personalities. Feria culminates with a big firework display at midnight on Sunday.
