cafes

  • Buena Ventura - Avenida de la Constitucion. Good for breakfast , lunch (sandwiches and tapas) or coffee with tasty cakes. It is a chain bakery and has more shops in Arenal, Triana and Alfalfa.

  • La Campana - Calle Sierpes 1 - Great for a coffee break after your shopping. The oldest cafeteria in Seville. Functioning since 1885.

  • Calle San Eloy - chocolate con churros in the morning or late afternoon, this cafe really doesn't have a name, but you can find it half way along c/ San Eloy - it has seating outside as well.

  • Ochoa - c/ Sierpes 45

  • Dar El Mehdi - c/ Frederico Rubio 8, 10 (close to Giralda) offers a big selection of Moroccan and international teas as well as alcoholic drinks and cakes (try the coconut ones). On Fridays and Sundays you can enjoy belly dancing - Danza del Vientre. The best time to go here is in the evenings as during afternoons the teteria is bit of a teenage hang out.

  • Banos Arabes - c/Aire. Has a Teteria on the upper floor. It is "posher" than Dar El Mehdi and more airer. There is indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying the sun in an open air Sevilliano patio.

tapas bars

  • Eslava
c/ Eslava. My favourite in Seville. The best food and the best value for money. Very popular for the tapas, but it has restaurant as well. It is situated next to the beautiful church San Lorenzo.

  • La Maquila – c/Teodosio 53, tel. 954 380067. This is a very charming bar - my second favourite - which has little bit of a French feel to it, but the food is typically Spanish and very tasteful. It is cosy and compact, so come early. Try the amazing Lomo al Jerez con Pate and then Cheesecake with lemon tea. It is a bakery/gourmet grocery shop, so if you like something, you can buy it.

  • Bar Manolo - Plaza Alfalfa. It is great to sit under the trees of this beautiful square, enjoy tinto de verano, watch people passing and then just move on to other tapas bar around here. Try beef stew (caldereta) - could not be better.

  • Ajo Blanco - Calle Alhondiga. Jazz music, mixture of Spanish and Mexican food, cosy atmosphere, mostly young crowd and sale of old records.

  • Mariscos Emilio Cerveceria La Mar
c/ Genova in Triana (close to Plaza de Cuba). This is my favourite fish restaurant, they have great selection of fresh seafood. You can enjoy tapas at the bar or sit at the back in the restaurant.

  •

  • Cerveceria Giralda
Mateos Gago 1. A short distance from the Giralda, this place has great choice of tapas, it has a restaurant as well as a seating outside. Try very light delicious pate.

  •

  • Taberna Alabardero - C/ Zaragoza.

  • Bar at Hotel Becquer - Reyes Catolicos 4. I wasn't sure about this bar when it was recommended to me as usually bars at hotels are not very good. Well, this is an exception. It has great tapas with a  modern twist. Try tuna with couscous or duck.

  • Bar Alfalfa
Plaza Alfalfa. This is very small bar with good atmosphere. I would recommend it as a staring point on your night out. Has great tapas and even better music.

  • Casa Paco
Is situated at Alameda de Hercules. I think this is the best place to eat on the Alameda. It has big variety of tapas and nice  casual outside seating. Try toasted brie on toast, chicken with ham and salmorejo.

  • Alcoy 10 - on the corner of c/ Alcoy and c/ Teodosio

  • Bar Europa - c/ Siete Revuelta 35. They also have seating outside. They have very good pate.

  • El Rinconcillo - c/ Gerona 40. The oldest bar in Seville founded in 1670. Interesting sevilliana tiles and wooden carved ceiling.

  • Taverna Coloniales
Plaza Jesus de Burgos - very busy, bit touristy, good food, get there early to get a table. Situated on very nice square, if you are lucky you can spot locals dancing the tango in the square during the summer nights.

  •

  • El Patio - San Eloy 9, great for lunch. Serving variety of bocadillos/ sandwiches. Unusual seating on ´steps´.

  • La Bodega - c/ Rodrigo Caro. This small bar is good for breakfast and an evening drink, close to the Cathedral, serves bocadillos and tapas. Very popular.

  • Estrella - c/ Estrella. Tucked away bar. Popular for weekend lunches and evenings. Outside seating as well. Good tapas.

  • Meson de la Infanta - c/ Dos de Mayo 26, open from 12.30 - 16.00 and then at 19.00, closed on Tuesday. Very traditional bar, full of character, good spot, popular with locals and tourist. There is a restaurant in the back.

  • Casimiro - Avenida de Coria 19 (Triana). This bar is decorated with old radios. It is very popular for its fried courgettes.

  • Sopa de Ganso - c/ Perez Galdos 8. Nice place if you want to listen to some good music. This bar has 2 rooms with tables and serves bit of everything from tapas to pizzas and pasta. Popular with young people.

  • Las Golondrinas
at c/ Antillano Campos 26 is tucked away in the narrow streets of Triana district. Serves tapas and medio raciones, try Pinchitos (meat on a skewer). Closed on Wednesdays.

  • Bar Los Dardos - at Plaza del Pozo Santo is the closest tapa bar to the apartment, situated on a small plaza next to a monastery and it serves breakfast as well.

  • Cafe Santa Maria - at Plaza San Andres is the second closest place to the apartment. It serves breakfast and is popular for lunches for its big outside seating area on the airy plaza.

  • El Faro de Triana - c/ San Jacinto - at the end of Puente De Isabel II has great views from the terrace. It has a restaurant and tapas bar which serves generous size tapas.

restaurants

Some of the tapas places above (such as Eslava) have restaurants as well so you can always choose where you want to sit. The difference between having tapas and the restaurant is that when having tapas you can get lots of different small dishes to share while in a restaurant the dining experience is more formal (and more expensive) and you usually have one main dish. As well, there are some places which are kind of mixture of restaurant and tapas bar.

  • Bacalao - in between c/ Campana and c/ Martín Villa. Has outside seating, tapas bar and upstairs restaurant. Great for fish, but if you not a "fishy person" try duck in orange sauce.

  • Las Piletas - c/ Marqués de Paradas. This is a proper restaurant, but you can still get tapas at the bar or sitting outside. Popular for its bullfighting decor.

  • Pando -c/ San Eloy. In a front room you can just have tapas (it is self-service) or you can choose to go to the dining room at the back. This place is very airy so you don't have that squashed feeling like in other places. Popular during weekends as well as for churros.

  • As-Sawirah - Galera 5, tel. 954562268. This Moroccan restaurant in Arenal is beautifully decorated and hand painted with high sealing and wooden beams. Offers traditional Moroccan cuisine, there is a set menu for 2 or more people, so you can try bit of everything. Don't forget to have a selection of cakes with mint tea. The staff is very friendly and professional.

  • Naranja - C/ Relator (close to Alameda). This restaurant is very stylish and modern. As it's name suggests, the decor is orange in combination with white. The food is Spanish/ International nouvelle cuisine. Cost: about 27 Euros for two with shared starter, dessert and drinks (www.cocinanaranja.com).
